The EFL said in a statement: "Burton's League One fixture against Shrewsbury Town, due to take place on Tuesday, January 26, has been suspended.

"The club has informed the EFL that it is unable to fulfil the fixture due to an outbreak of Covid-19 and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate in line with EFL and government guidance.

"The circumstances surrounding the postponement will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL regulations.

"A revised date for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course."

The news comes a day after Blackpool announced they had returned five positive Covid tests following its latest round of mandatory testing.

While the players affected haven’t been named, regular first-teamers Dan Ballard, Ollie Turton, Kenny Dougall and Grant Ward weren’t involved during yesterday's FA Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Coupled with injuries and Demetri Mitchell already isolating following a positive Covid test, that left Blackpool’s squad severely depleted on Saturday, resulting in four youth-team players making the trip down to the South Coast.

Another round of testing is due to take place on Monday.
