Blackpool defender justified manager's decision in Portsmouth victory

Kevin Stewart believes “the buzz” of Saturday’s win at Portsmouth will count for little if Blackpool fail to back it up against Doncaster Rovers tomorrow night.

Jerry Yates scored the only goal of the game at Fratton Park as Blackpool completed an impressive league double over Kenny Jackett’s side.

The Seasiders, who have now won four of their last five games, sit top of the League One form table.

That’s a run they’ll be looking to build on when they host fourth-placed Doncaster at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday night.

“We’ve got to keep the momentum going,” Stewart said.

“It would take the buzz off Saturday’s win a little bit if we go and lose against Doncaster.

“We go into that game wanting to win and we’re in a good place at the moment to go and do that, so I can’t see why not.”

Blackpool’s recent good form has been all the more impressive given it’s come without the likes of Daniel Gretarsson, Marvin Ekpiteta, Keshi Anderson, CJ Hamilton and Gary Madine, who are all out injured.

But the Seasiders boast strength in depth across the pitch, something that is likely to prove vital in the coming weeks.

“There were a lot of changes against Portsmouth and some subs came on that haven’t played loads recently, but they were still impactful and effective. As a squad, that depth is a really big bonus for us,” Stewart said.

“We’re missing some big players right now, so to hit that form without them is really promising.

“It will only be a big plus for us when those guys come back and we’ll be a lot stronger hitting the back end of the season.

“I’m excited to see what we can do.”
