Key Blackpool figure explains why ex-Leicester City man was allowed to join Plymouth Argyle just four months after arriving

The midfielder left Bloomfield Road to join League One leaders Plymouth Argyle on a permanent deal, penning a three-and-a-half year deal.

The move came just four months after Wright had left Leicester City to join the Seasiders permanently.

His move to the Fylde coast didn’t work out as he would have wanted though, the midfielder making just 10 appearances, with only five of those coming from the start.

Addressing Wright’s surprise departure, Blackpool’s assistant manager David Kerslake told The Gazette: “With Callum, he didn’t have many opportunities when he came in but he always showed he’s an outstanding professional.

“He’s a young guy that really looks after himself and he knocked on the manager’s door a couple of times wanting to know why (he wasn’t playing), which you have to admire him for.

“To have players who accept where they are and are comfortable…he’s not one of those players and he’s had the opportunity to move on and I wish him really well, as we all do.”

Wright wasn’t the only player to leave Bloomfield Road in the first week of the transfer window, with Theo Corbeanu also heading for the exit door.

The 20-year-old was recalled by his parent club Wolves after making 18 appearances, scoring three times.

The winger is currently out with an ankle injury and with Morgan Rogers and Josh Bowler arriving, game time would have been limited for the Canadian.

“Theo did well with his three goals and a few assists, although I think it could easily have been a few more,” Kerslake said.

“He was unfortunate with his injury but I understand he’s gone back to Wolves and he will have to sort himself out and we’ll see if he stays there or goes out on loan again.”

Since Corbeanu’s return to Molineux, the winger has been linked with a loan move to League One promotion-chasers Ipswich Town.

However, it’s understood a move is unlikely at this point in time given Corbeanu’s injury, with sources in Suffolk suggesting it’s not gone as far as a tentative enquiry as this moment in time.
