The Seasiders captain was replaced by Matty Virtue in the 72nd minute after flagging a problem that has previously hindered him this season. Back in November, the midfielder suffered a blow to the ribs which kept him out of a number of games, shortly after he had only just returned from another injury.

Despite the forced change on Tuesday night, Neil Critchley’s side were able to see out an important three points to close the gap between themselves and sixth place Stevenage, with Matthew Pennington’s goal proving to be the difference.

Discussing the reason behind Norburn’s substitution after the game, the Blackpool boss said: “He just felt his ribs again, which obviously the injury he had earlier in the season. He carried on for a bit, and it wasn’t serious, but he just felt a bit of discomfort.”

Karamoko Dembele was also substituted heading into the latter stages of the game at Sixfields, after producing the free kick that led to Pennington’s goal.

"I don’t think he’s used to playing defensive midfield and getting back into his own penalty area,” Critchley added.

"He’s put a lot of work into the games, and he’s not played so much football before in his life- he’s a young boy, so it was just tiredness. He was smiling in the dressing room and hopefully he’ll be fine for Saturday.”

Blackpool are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
