The 26-year-old was Blackpool’s first-choice keeper this season until he injured his arm in the Boxing Day defeat to Accrington Stanley.

He was initially ruled out for three months but was still unavailable when the country went into lockdown.

Alnwick is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of the season and had been linked with a permanent switch to Blackpool during the January transfer window.

However, his untimely injury dashed any hopes of a permanent move south of the border then.

The Seasiders subsequently turned to Chris Maxwell, who was brought in on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Blackpool and Alnwick reportedly discussed a pre-contract agreement, which would have seen the former Port Vale and Scunthorpe United shot-stopper sign for the club in July.

The picture was muddied even further when Simon Grayson was sacked in February as it was Pool’s former manager who had been pushing for Alnwick to be signed permanently.

The former England Under-20 international started Blackpool’s first 22 League One fixtures of the campaign, conceding 24 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.

Alnwick joined Rangers in 2017 but has only made a handful of appearances.

With Allan McGregor considered the club’s number one, it’s understood Alnwick has no future with the Glasgow giants.

That means Alnwick would be free to join another club this summer, though that will be complicated by the coronavirus pandemic.

Clubs are unlikely to commit to any deals amid all the uncertainty, especially with funds so tight due to the loss in matchday revenue.
