Wednesday night came and went without any drama at Bloomfield Road with no arrivals or departures from the manager’s squad.

Bowyer’s main focus at the start of the window was to keep hold of his best players.

That proved to be the case as players including Kelvin Mellor and Jimmy Ryan remained at Bloomfield Road despite speculation linking them with moves away.

The Blackpool boss had braced himself for interest on deadline day but he revealed he didn’t receive one phone call.

“It was very quiet,” Bowyer admitted.

“I’m delighted to have kept everybody because at the beginning of the window that was my main hope.

“I would have liked to have added to the squad for some new faces and some fresh blood but we’ve not been successful in trying to do that.

“So we crack on now until the end of the season with the squad we’ve got.

“There were a couple of opportunities to bring people in but we couldn’t agree to get the deals over the line.

“So from that we quickly moved on and they were dead and buried by Tuesday, so Wednesday was one of the quietest days I’ve ever had in the window.

“I didn’t take one call from anyone with a serious bid for any of our players, which surprised me to be honest given the level of the performances of some of the individuals we’ve got.”

Keeping Mellor in the building is a massive boost for the club given the defender attracted interest from both Wigan Athletic and Bradford City.

Two bids were lodged for the 26-year-old but the club managed to hold onto him.

“Everybody knows what I think of Kelvin Mellor,” Bowyer added.

“He contributes goals, which is an added bonus, but just because of where he can play and how he can play, he’s so integral to our squad.

“This season alone he’s played left wing, right wing, centre back and right back and I’m sure he could play centre forward. So he’s a valuable member for sure.”

Bowyer spoke of his delight at the window closing as it allows the Seasiders to concentrate on the remaining 17 games - starting with a short trip to Bury this weekend.

“Now the players have really got to knuckle down,” he said.

“There’s no more distractions and they’ve got to get back to their levels they’ve played all season and get us some wins.

“Then obviously that increases the interest in them again.”
