Slocombe is Bowyer’s seventh signing of the summer and the ‘Pool boss says it was vital that the club acted quickly to replace last term’s No.1 Colin Doyle, who joined League One club Bradford City last week.

Slocombe, 28, was released by Oxford City earlier this summer after making 23 appearances as they clinched promotion from League Two to League One.

The keeper also gained promotion from the division during a seven-year 135 game stint at Scunthorpe United and Bowyer says that experience will strengthen his side as Slocombe put pen to paper on a one-year deal with an option for a further year.

Bowyer told the club’s official website: “It was important that we moved swiftly to replace Colin Doyle and in Sam we have a goalkeeper with good league experience.

“He’s been promoted from this division with Scunthorpe United and Oxford United and is another strong addition to the squad.”

Slocombe believes Blackpool can challenge at the top of League Two this season.

He told the club website: “The project that the gaffer is putting together here seems quite appealing and we have a really good opportunity this season to give it a right good go.”
