Bittersweet international call-up for Blackpool's Roache

The 18-year-old youth team star started the game and scored the third goal of the match to put the game out of sight with a close-range finish.

Roache had to settle for a place on the bench in Ireland's 1-1 draw against Slovakia on Wednesday, but came on with 25 minutes to go.

Unfortunately, that meant the forward had to miss the first leg of Blackpool's FA Youth Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Tuesday - which they drew 2-2.

He should be available for the return leg on April 16, where the young Seasiders will be looking to clinch their place in the final.

Roache will hope to be back in action on Tuesday evening when Ireland take on Portugal in their third and final game of their European Championship qualifiers.

Should they win that game they will give themselves every opportunity of topping their group, which they would need to do as only the top side will reach this summer's competition.
