Fleetwood Town's fan power helps to drive the club on

Town took five times the number of supporters to Scunthorpe United last weekend than the 109 that travelled to Northampton Town on the opening day of the season for Rosler’s first game in charge.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Glanford Park saw Town surpass their highest League One points total and leapfrog the Iron into second.

Now they are expecting their highest gate of the season for their first home clash with Bolton Wanderers, having not lost a league game at Highbury since the 4-1 defeat to MK Dons in September.

With Wanderers selling out their away allocation Rosler urged Town’s fans to keep up the good work.

He said: “They like that we score goals; even when we don’t have our best day, they see a team on the pitch that fights.

“I think that is all they ask for, a team out there who fights for the cause, the colours and the badge.

“They also will forgive us in the future if we have a period when we are not winning every game because of what we build now and I think that is important going forward.

“Gradually each month the people see what we do and support us home or away.

“There is a reason why we have a fantastic home record. How many times in the second half of the season have we turned games around on our home pitch late on?

“That comes also through the support of our own supporters. I cannot ask for any more than what I have seen over the months; how this club has developed a fanbase, how people travel now to away games.

“We are filling a stand at Scunthorpe, and to see them celebrating with the players, that is what makes my job enjoyable.

“I think this is just the beginning and for Andy Pilley to see that (support) growing must give him a lot of pleasure because he made the club where it is now.

“We can give him that sort of enjoyment but also that he can see the fanbase growing.

“That we are even playing in the same league like Bolton is an amazing achievement and that must feel very rewarding for the people that have been at this football club for a very long time.

“I’ve only been here eight months but, for people who have been building this football club up, they must be absolutely delighted with how far it has come.

“Hopefully they feel a lot of pleasure and a lot of reward for the hard work they have put in; also for the chairman and the support he has put into it.

“I really hope that we can make this season really special for the chairman and for the football club.”
