It was literally a game of two halves for AFC Fylde in their first pre-season friendly as 21 players got at least 45 minutes and played out a frustrating draw with the North West Counties League side last night.

All four of Dave Challinor’s summer signings starred in the first period as both teams mixed youth and experience.

Last season’s U18 Player of the Season John Priestner, performed solidly at left-back, as did Isaac Kusaloka partnering new striker James Dean up front in the first period.

The best period of play for the Coasters came after 25 minutes, when Kusaloka fired over and Jimmy McCarthy had two fine balls into the box cleared.

In the second half, Paul Jarvis was the star man on the left wing.

Challinor was becoming increasingly frustrated as Ricardo Egidi and Mike Galliers squandered chances.

Jarvis fired a free-kick inches wide from 25 yards on the hour mark but the best chance of the match came from Harry Winter with 15 minutes left.

After Egidi broke on the left, Jarvis found Winter free ten yards out but he could only shoot straight at the keeper.

The Coasters face Chester on Sunday.

Fylde first half: Hinchliffe, Carden, Hughes, Doughty, Priestner, Dean, Booth, Kay, Kusaloka, McCarthy, A Trialist; second half: Hinchliffe, Seeley, Sumner, El-Harriti, Doughty, Guinn, B. Barnes, Galliers, Winter, Jarvis, Egidi.
