Fylde Ladies hit six to reach cup final
Fylde Ladies booked their place in the final of the Mecure Dunkenhalgh Challenge Cup with a convincing 6-0 victory over Blackpool Wren Rovers.
The Coasters led 4-0 at half-time thanks to braces from Yasmine Swarbrick and Chloe Adams, then sealed victory with goals from Hannah Forster and Natasha Flint in a dominant display.
Club captain Charlotte Farrell and Kim Turner took charge of the team following the departure of manager Luke Swindlehurst and they couldn’t have hoped for a better start.
There were five changes to the side that drew with Leicester as centre-back Jenna Carroll replaced Gemma Jackson in goal, and Alice Forshaw, Lagan Makin, Swarbrick and Adams came in for Turner, Leah Foster, Danielle Young and Emily Marsh.
It was a perfect start for the Coasters as they scored after just two minutes. Makin crossed from the left and found Swarbrick with room to poke the ball past the keeper.
Makin claimed another assist in the ninth minute, Adams this time the beneficiary. The Coasters had a corner which was punched clear but Makin was quick to get on the loose ball and floated a perfect cross for Adams to head home.
Adams bagged her second and the Coasters’ third in the 26th minute, meeting Makin’s fine cross in a crowded box.
The game was put out of sight just four minutes later, when Adams ran the length of the pitch and broke into the box, then unselfishly squared the ball across goal for Swarbrick to finish off.
The Coasters picked up exactly where they left off after the break and made it five two minutes into the second half.
After some neat build-up play, Swarbrick exchanged passes with Forster and the ball eventually fell to Foster, who tucked the ball away with a smart low shot into the bottom left corner.
The goal of the day came in the 53rd minute. Makin won a free-kick and crossed for Natasha Flint, who pulled off a stunning volley that flew past the helpless keeper to wrap up the result.
Adams could have had a hat-trick when she did well to create space in the box and tried her luck, but the shot cannoned back off the crossbar.
The Coasters continued to press and never let Wren Rovers back into the game, seeing out a very convincing win and earning them their place in the Mecure Dunkenhalgh Challenge Cup final against Blackburn Rovers.
