The 26-year-old striker, who is currently on loan with League One side Rochdale, is likely to remain out of action for the rest of the season as he starts his recovery.

Redshaw has found game time hard to come by, with the shin splints limiting him to just four appearances this season.

He has also only appeared for Dale on two occasions since joining them during the January transfer window.

Pool boss Gary Bowyer said: “Unfortunately ever since he’s been here he’s had the problem which keeps recurring.

“The final solution was surgery and we’ve been told it’s gone well, so now he starts the rehab programme and we wish him all the best for that.

“From what we’re being told it shouldn’t be too long and there’s a possibility he could be playing by the end of the season."

When asked if he will be recalled from his loan or stay at Rochdale, Bowyer added: “I think he’s going to do a bit of both, so we’re going to keep in touch with everybody and do what’s right for Jack.”
