Proctor aims to hammer The Iron

Town travel to Scunthorpe United on Tuesdsay night (7.45pm) with Proctor again set to lead the line in the absence of the injured Stephen Dobbie.

Proctor, a summer capture from Crawley Town, has grabbed his chance to shine with the Highbury club, scoring in both League games so far, including the winner on Saturday at Notts County.

“Saturday was a clean sheet, a goal and a victory,” said the 22-year-old, who headed home a Josh Morris cross on the stroke of half-time. “The most important thing was the three points.

“We knew it would be a tough place to go after we started with a positive result against Crewe. “To go to Nottingham, keep a clean sheet and keep up our start in the League was perfect for us.”

In contrast , tonight’s hosts Scunthorpe, who sold star man Sam Winall in the summer, have struggled to get going.

They lost 4-0 to Proctor’s former club Preston on Saturday but the striker is taking nothing for granted.

He said: “You can’t really judge where teams are at after one game. “We want to look at ourselves, not the other team.

“We know we’re playing well right now and we feel we can beat anyone. It doesn’t really matter what the other team do as long as we play our stuff.”

Proctor’s two goals couldn’t have been more different– the first against Crewe a stinging 20-yard effort, Saturday’s a stooping header at the back post.

He admits the winner at Meadow Lane was the result of a lot of training ground effort.

Proctor explained:”It’s something we’ve worked on – getting the ball into the back stick, and it paid dividends on Saturday.

“We’ve been talking about the runs we’re making into the box. On Saturday I just got across the man and found a bit of space. That was all I needed.”

It’s been a dream start for Proctor at Fleetwood but he’s not getting carried away.

The striker added: “I’ve got two goals in two league games. For us to have the two victories it’s fantastic. It’s something to build on.

“But we can’t rest on our laurels. We’ve got to press on. Two games out of 46 is nothing.

“We’ve got to move on to the next one, be positive and we can win that one as well.”

Manager Alexander is busy making sure Town’s in-form squad remain focused as they enjoy life in League One.

Proctor said: “Straight away the manager said well done to everyone and looked at the positives. Then we quickly move on to the next one. That’s all we focus on.”

Confidence is high and Proctor believes Fleetwood are reaping the benefits of Alexander’s decision not to embark on a major summer rebuild.

The frontman said: “Most of the boys here were part of what happened last season. They don’t know what it’s like to lose many games.

“They still don’t want to lose games. They feel like they can go into every game and get a result.

“Coming into that side filled me with confidence,I know I’m in a team capable of producing positive results.”
