Scunthorpe United 0 Fleetwood Town 2

Jamie Proctor and Gareth Evans struck late at Glanford Park to send Fleetwood Town top of League One.

Fleetwood dominated for long periods against Scunthorpe United but looked like they might draw a blank until David Ball danced into the Iron box, squaring for Proctor to turn it home - his third in as many games.

The 71st minute goal was a wake up call for the home side who turned up the pressure but couldn’t find a way past a makeshift Fleetwood defence featuring Stephen Jordan and Liam Hogan as a centre half pair.

And Town doubled their advantage with 10 minutes to play.

Stephen Crainey was fouled on the left, Steven Schumacher swinging a perfect ball to the back post where Gareth Evans rose unmarked to head home.

It was everything Town deserved after a first half in which Fleetwood created plenty of chances but couldn’t truly test debutant keeper Bobby Olejnik, on loan from Peterborough.

After their second Town looked to close the door, bringing on a third centre half.

But still Scunthorpe came close, Deon Burton hitting the angle, his effort falling neatly into the arms of Chris Maxwell.

Town are yet to concede from open play and sit two points clear at the top of the League One table with three wins from three.
