Town's double header excites chairman Pilley

Town are 17 unbeaten heading into tomorrow’s clash at Glanford Park and then host Wanderers a week later.

Fleetwood drew level on points with second-placed Scunthorpe thanks to a 3-0 win over Northampton Town.

The Iron are currently on a mini-blip, having failed to win a league game in February.

Town have gained ground on them and could surpass the record League One points tally of 63 – set by Alexander’s side in the 2014-15 season – if they win at Glanford Park.

Pilley said: “They don’t come much bigger than that really do they to be fair? Again we fear nobody.

“We’ve been to Bramall Lane, we’ve won there, we beat Bradford, who were an excellent football team when they came to Highbury.

“I’m sure the lads will be in a very positive mindset, I know the management team will be and everyone associated with the club will be.

“We will go and give it our best shot and if things don’t go our way there is still a lot of football to be played.

“Nothing will be decided this Saturday or the Saturday after but I’m not nervous, I’m excited.

“I think everyone is in a good place and enjoying the form that we are in and the success that we are achieving as a football club over the last 17 games.”

This time last year Town were embroiled in a relegation scrap they only survived on the final day, so Pilley is happy to be at the other end.

He said: “I certainly know which end of the table I’d rather be! Hand on heart I don’t feel any pressure, I really don’t.

“I think everyone needs to take it one game at a time and continue to enjoy the run and the performances because it is not just a case of avoiding defeat, winning games and drawing games.

“What we are doing is putting out some real good performances as well; we are keeping clean sheets regularly, the players look very well organised, they look mentally in a very good state, they know their roles and responsibilities and they are delivering.”
