Gemma’s brace just the Trickett

Needing only a point to secure the title, they duly beat Morecambe 2-1.

Amy Horrocks and Hazel Cockerill were strong in defence, though keeper Eleni Cullen made some good saves.

Gemma Trickett opened the scoring. Morecambe equalised, but there was no denying Lytham or Trickett, who went close several times before netting the winner.

A good day for Lytham in the top division was completed by their Seconds’ 5-4 derby win over Blackpool and Wyre, who led 3-1 at half-time.

Blackpool made the brighter start, and led 2-0 before Heidi Williams pulled one back, assisted by Tracey Housley.

Blackpool restored the two-goal lead, but Lytham hit back with Williams’ second, a dazzling solo goal early in the second half.

Gilly Shields levelled the scores with a penalty.

Lytham took the lead five minutes from time, when Williams hammered her hat-trick goal from close range.

There was still time for Blackpool to equalise, only for Williams’ fourth to seal the win, which took Lytham above their local rivals.

Blackpool’s scorers were their player of the game Kandi Cardwell, Lauren Burrell and Meghan Fearn. Sophie Thomas also gave a fine display.

Lytham fared less well the next day, losing 3-0 to Lancaster Seconds in a rearranged game.

Lancaster took the lead after 10 minutes.

Strikes from Shields and Nina Sethi rebounded off the keeper as goal chances came and went for Lytham, and Lancaster scored a second seven minutes into the second half, and their relentless pressure was rewarded with a third.

Blackpool Seconds were also involved in two matches over the weekend in Lancashire Central Division One.

The first was a thriller against Longridge Seconds, who eventually won 6-5.

Christy Martin scored four for Blackpool, with Vicky Waddington and Mairead Lucas also playing well.

Blackpool powered to an 8-0 victory over Chorley and Leyland the following day, Britney Wiseman and Emily Copp both bagging hat-tricks.

Wiseman played for Blackpool Thirds the previous day, scoring the only goal of the first half against their Longridge counterparts.

They went on to win 4-0, as player of the match Chloe Mallinson netted twice and Christy O’Neill also scored.

Lytham Thirds lost 2-1 to Springfields Fourths in Division Two.

n Blackpool Men are still fighting for promotion in North West Division Three after their 4-2 win at Bebington.

They soon moved into a two-goal lead thanks to strikes the league’s top scorer Dave Morgan and Ian Swaine.

Blackpool appeared to relax and the hosts scored from a tight angle to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Blackpool came out flying for the second half as man of the match Swaine completed his hat-trick.

Blackpool could still clinch the second promotion spot if they win their final two games and Lymm slip up.

Blackpool Seconds are in a similar position in Seven North, and made it 10 straight wins with a convincing 11-0 win over Chorley and Leyland.

After Chris Hocking broke down a stubborn defence, Andrew Mortimer fired home the second and the floodgates were well and truly open.

Jordan Payne, Simon Thomas, Josh Payne, Simon Allen and Hocking, with his second, made it 7-0 at half-time.

There was a second for Jordan Payne, Allen and Thomas before Jay Currey completed the scoring.

Blackpool Thirds had to defend for the whole game against Kirkby Lonsdale in Nine North, but a young side succumbed 7-0. Stephen Pope was Blackpool’s man of the match.

Blackpool Juniors conceded a last-minute goal in their 3-1 defeat by Preston.

n Lytham St Annes Men were beaten 9-1 by Sheffield Hallam Seconds in North Division One.

LSA Seconds surrendered a two-goal lead against Chester Thirds in North West Four.

David Robbins scored both, but Chester earned a draw, despite some fine saves by Mick Huggon.

Lytham Thirds went down 3-0 to Ormskirk’s first team, but LSA Fourths were 4-1 winners over Warrington.
