St Annes boxer Matty Askin is to make the first defence of his British cruiserweight title this autumn.

He will take on Scot Stephen Simmons on October 6 at the Meadowbank Arena in Edinburgh.

The British Boxing Board Of Control has sanctioned the defence, which will be screened live on the satellite and cable tv network Box Nation.

Askin won the title by beating Craig Kennedy, of Wales, in Cardiff in May.

His manager Paul Speak said: "Matty has beaten an Englishman (Simon Barclay) an Irishman (Tommy McCarthy) and a Welshman (Kennedy) it's only right he meets a Scotsman now!"
