Pole power: Blackpool Wyre and Fylde junior athletics

She then made a return journey to Sheffield to compete in the England Under-20/17/15 Championships.

In the Under-20 pole vault, Fiona continued her collection of 2017 silverware by clearing 3.75m to win another silver medal behind Molly Caudery (4.05m) of Cornwall.

She had even more reason to celebrate as she was selected to represent England in a match against Wales in Cardiff next Sunday.

BWFAC teammate Jasmine Carey competed in the Under-15 pole vault and also won a silver medal with a PB of 3.11m.

It means that the UK pole vault rankings now see Hockey ranked fourth in the Under-20 age group and Carey third in the Under-15 section.

Back in Blackpool, an enthusiastic BWFAC team competed in this season’s final fixture of the of Lancashire Sportshall League, which involves running, jumping and throwing and was held at the Stanley Park Sports Centre.

This will be good preparation for various aspects athletics in the forthcoming outdoor season.

Meanwhile, several of the youngest members competed in the Fylde Primary Schools cross country race held at the Lytham Park View Playing Grounds.

Holly Tickle and Connor Norman competed in the Year Five race on the 1.2K course.

Holly Tickle, representing St Michaels Kirkham School, won the girls race in 5:47 while Connor Norman, representing Lytham C of E School, finished sixth in the boys’ race in 5:41.

In the Year Six race Alex Maude, representing Kirkham Grammar School, was second in 5:34 over the 1.4K course.
