Former Fylde rugby club winger Brendan Hanavan is to be honoured by a new annual fixture against traditional rivals Preston Grasshoppers.
The first-ever Brendan Hanavan Trophy will take place at ‘Hoppers’ Lightfoot Green ground on Good Friday, April 18.
It will be played on an annual basis with Fylde and Preston staging it in alternate years.
The competition is being organised with Fylde’s blessing by former Woodlands front row forward Steve Rigby.
The fixture will honour one of the most prolific try-scorers in Fylde’s history.
Hanavan, who died last year, scored 198 tries in 324 Fylde appearances.
His best season was in 1986-7 when he scored 49 tries in 40 matches.
