Blackpool teenager pens song in aid of Streetlife

Joel Yarwood, 17, from South Shore, has written, produced and recorded a song called A Broken Dancefloor in aid of Streetlife, a charity for young homeless people in the resort.

The teenager first showed an interest in music aged 13 and has since released his tracks on music platforms Spotify and Apple Music under his artist name, Goosy.

Joel explained the song is about mental health, life difficulties and the thought that many people are only a few pay slips away from losing a roof over their head.

He said: “The song A Broken Dancefloor is a metaphorical term for a place where people go whenever they feel vulnerable and have emotions such as depression, anxiety and feelings or

thoughts of suicide.

“Whether or not a person has a home or even extensive wealth, they can all fall victim to these emotions.

“So why is it that only a small amount of people support these causes if empathetically we are not dissimilar.

“They say anyone could be a few pay slips away from homelessness, so instead of being driven by materialism we should think more empathetically which I believe A Broken Dancefloor helps people to do.”

Joel, whose artist name Goosy comes from his hope to give listeners goosebumps from his music, has raised more than £500 from his song for Streetlife.

He added: “I’m home-schooled and concentrating on my maths GCSE at the moment but I hope to make a stable living out of my music.

“I write and produce my own songs in a home studio using a MacBook and a microphone. And I’ve created my own label called Calm Pebble so I can write and produce songs for other people.

“The genre of music I most like to produce is alternative and indie.”
