Carousel Funfairs was supposed to return to Whyndyke Farm off Preston New Road back in May - but lockdown restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus meant funfair head Gary Gore had to delay the event.

Now it is back, with high hopes of being better than ever with more than 20 rides and attractions, including a new 'Wild Mouse' roller-coaster that is expected to open up during the second weekend of the fair's three-week run, on August 22.

Gary said: "We have brought in the fantastic spinning wild mouse roller coaster this year and Blackpool’s only Sky View which spins riders at over 40 metres skyward for an exhilarating experience they’ll never forget, with views across the whole of the town and to the coast.”

There will also be Dodgems, a Twister, a flying Dumbo ride, and a Waltzer, and a new Ghost Train. A train ride, cups and saucers, and a children's roller coaster will provide thrills for the fair's youngest guests.

Gary said: "We are running a bit behind with the roller-coaster because of the downpours - we don't know if we'll be opening it tomorrow. We have lost a few days due to the bad weather. But it will definitely be going ahead.

"Blackpool is our base; we come here every year. We're just hoping we will get some good weather and that people are feeling they want to come out again.

"Everything is in place to bring the fair up to new government standards. Everything is a lot more spaced out because of restrictions and we want to put people at ease.

"It has been a tough year and things are still tough. We want to feel safe like anyone else so we're doing all we can to bring the fair to the standard people want.

"This year has been one thing after the other, but it's nice to be out after being stuck inside for so long. Hopefully people will support us. We have had a good turnout in the past when we have been here and people have enjoyed themselves, and I hope people will continue to enjoy themselves."

The fair opens on Friday and will run until Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, just off Preston New Road on junction 4 of the M55.
