Party on the green with George Ezra for Lytham Festival

When Budapest burst on to the radio in 2014, happy-go-lucky George Ezra could easily have been a one-hit wonder.

But it is the laid back, relatable style of the British singer songwriter which is much of his appeal. You can't help but smile when you hear him share the trivia of his European travels, which inspired much of the album Wanted on Voyage, the third biggest selling album of 2014 behind Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith.

His grounded personality meant he was happy to source material for much of this year's follow-up Tamara's Place free from distractions from a rented flat in Barcelona, owned by a lady called.....Tamara no less

The popularity of recent singles 'Paradise' and 'Shotgun', both echoing those original quirky charms of Budapest have proven that the 24-year-old is no flash in the pan and the crowds on Lytham Green were more than happy to immerse themselves in the music and his stories on what we can now describe as an unusual rainy summer's day in July.

He apologised for bringing it with him - he had a forgivable audience.

Recounting his month in Europe he launched into Barcelona.

The first songs written for his second album were Shotgun and Pretty Shining People, which Ezra says he wrote after spending time up Montjuïc hill in Barcelona. Both ensured his energetic audience were in the mood for one big party on the green.

And a party he and his excellent band did bring. Even during the more soulful Hold my Girl and All My Love which did not dampen the spirit of the crowd

Paradise, he shared, was a forgotten hidden treasure on the dictaphone, a melody thought up during an earlier tour in America.

And then we were back to where we began

Budapest as we all now know was a song as a result of a hangover, a city he actually missed from his ventures. If he can write a song that good slightly under par, what more has this exciting young talent got in his left in his treasure chest? He promised he would be back - let’s hope so.
